Overview#
photon shader is a Minecraft shader that focuses on the gaming experience. It is optimized for low-end devices and does not have extreme performance requirements.
photon shader uses the interface of the latest shader loader and supports the latest versions of Iris or Optifine above version 1.16.5.
photon shader is currently in continuous development and the author has not released any versions. To obtain it, you need to manually download the compressed file from the GitHub repository and check the repository page for updates. Recently, support for the End has been added, making it a shader with a relatively high level of completion.
Based on my actual experience, with my Ryzen R7 6800HS and its Radeon 680M integrated graphics (theoretical performance is close to GTX 1050), I can achieve a score of 25-40 FPS at a resolution of 1920×1200 with TAA Upscaling enabled. This means that most GPUs of this generation can use this shader at 60 FPS, indicating that the optimization of this shader is very good.
Features#
- Custom coloring using variable penumbra shadows and ambient occlusion
- Colored light sources using the bloom lighting algorithm (requires Iris, enabled by default in the Ultra configuration)
- Customizable sky with multiple cloud layers and different weather every day
- Camera effects - lens flare, depth of field, and motion blur
- Full support for labPBR resource packs
- Enhanced water
- Screen space reflections
- Volumetric lighting
- Significant improvement in image quality thanks to TAA, FXAA, and CAS
- Advanced temporal image scaling technology for low-end devices (disabled by default)
Download#
Please make sure that your network environment allows direct connection to GitHub.
There are two versions, the main branch and the Legacy branch.
Generally, download the repository files from the main branch, which is the new version currently being developed and maintained by the author. Legacy is the old version that the author stopped updating in February.
Make sure you are on the main branch, click on the green <> Code
button, and then click Download ZIP to download the shader pack. You can delete unnecessary images and documentation files from the pack, the list is as follows:
- README.md (documentation file)
- LICENSE (license file)
- .gitattributes (repository file)
- docs (documentation image folder)
This will reduce the size of the shader pack by 75%. (OCD rejoice
Summary#
photon shader can really enhance the gaming experience in Minecraft! The performance impact and atmospheric rendering are well balanced, and I will use it whether in survival or creative mode!
